Energy is required to clear obstacles on islands during exploration. The energy counter replenishes over time, but if you don't want to wait, you can get energy sets for crystals. You can get additional energy from the Fruit Bowl (a destructible building that you can find on the islands). You can also get some energy for watching video ads in case the feature is available.
The energy used in Adventures can also be used in Treasure Islands.
