You always explore a room in one of the modes that influences search conditions. E.g., in Silhouettes mode you’ll see item silhouettes instead of their names in the search list. After you successfully explore a room, the mode changes randomly. Learn the current mode by its special mark on the map or find it in the window when entering the room.
